How it works
It’s collaborative.
Expert for a Day is a collaborative process, which means that we both set aside the day to work exclusively on your website. Depending on your goals for the day and how hands-on you want to be, we may not spend the entire time working together; some of the time may be spent working solo, but you’ll need to be available throughout the full duration for questions & feedback.
It’s intensive.
It’s made up of 2x 3-hour work sessions. Each session is a concentrated chunk of strategy, design, content development, user experience mapping, technical fixes and/or anything else you'd like to focus on. The pre-work can be quite intensive, too. Don’t underestimate the time needed for preparation.
It’s supportive.
We’ll start with an initial planning call prior to the day, to go through your project and goals. You’ll also receive my Website Preparation Toolkit in advance, which contains guides, templates & tips on preparing your materials for the project - from copywriting, to logo sizes and image formats.
It’s flexible.
As every website and person is different, there’s no fixed agenda - we can spend the day on whatever your priorities are.
I’m flexible on logistics, too: we can meet at my London office, or on Zoom. And if timezones or childcare are an issue, you can choose to split the 2x sessions across 2 different mornings or afternoons.
Is it a good fit for you?
The Expert for a Day approach is best if:
You want expert guidance but also like to get your hands dirty.
You need a very small and basic new website, but your budget won’t stretch to a full design & build project, or:
You want to refresh your existing website and you like the idea of spending a single, pre-set low fee.
You have a clear, prioritised list of what you want to achieve.
You can set aside the day AND have the time to do all the preparation beforehand (you’ll receive my Website Preparation Toolkit to help you)
You’re comfortable with the idea of carrying out some of the work on your own once you’ve been trained and set up, if need be.
This approach is NOT for you if:
You're likely to get pulled onto other projects and cannot commit to having everything ready by a fixed deadline. This is a biggie!
You want to get it all done basically tomorrow (I recommend at least 3 weeks from initial booking, to allow time for your prep work).
You’re building a new eCommerce site, a large website with lots of pages or page types, or a complex website with lots of different types of functionality.
You have an existing website, but the list of changes is so long, it’s basically a total rebuild/redesign.
You’re not comfortable with the uncertainty of whether we’ll get to do everything in this concentrated chunk of time.
Still not sure? Book a briefing call to talk it through.
The Nitty Gritty
-
Quite a lot! Some clients have managed to do a full design overhaul, others have been able to get all their top priority changes done, and others have built the framework for a new website and learned how to carry out the rest of the updates themselves.
It is unlikely that we will be able to build and launch a brand new website from scratch, except in very specific circumstances. You can ask about this in a briefing call.
Some clients who have lots of changes/questions/pages have found that we need more time than the Expert for a Day sessions - in which case, I’ll give you a quote for any extras, and you’ll get a special discounted rate.
-
We’ll start with an initial consultation call to go through your project and goals.
Next, I will familiarise myself with your website or work in progress, making notes of what I think needs attention/fixes for the day.
I'll also provide a Website Preparation Toolkit and step-by-step guides to help you get things ready.
You'll need to allow time in your schedule for sourcing imagery, drafting content, chasing up decisions etc before we start.
-
Some of the day will be spent working together hands-on in real time. Other parts of the day we may be working on the website separately, or we may agree that I'll carry on with some things without you. There will be plenty of time for breaks and checking email, etc.

Expert for a Day is designed to take place in 2x 3-hour work sessions. Our work sessions can take place remotely through a series of Zoom meetings interspersed with solo work time, or in-person at my London office in Brixton (Zone 2) where I have a desk for you & a big screen to work from.
Normally sessions run 10am - 1pm and/or 2pm - 5pm UK time, though I can offer some flexibility if you are in a different time zone.

The Expert for a Day service is £1000 (+ VAT for UK clients).
You'll pay a 50% deposit upfront, and the 50% balance invoice will be issued at the end of the final session (payment terms 30 days). I take payments by card or bank transfer, in GBP, USD, CAD or Euros - just ask if you wish to be billed in a currency other than GBP.

My diary tends to get booked a minimum of 3 weeks in advance, but that’s actually a good thing as you’ll need time to do the prep work before our session(s). Book a briefing call to discuss date options.
The Expert for a Day service can also be booked as a combination service with the Site Audit. I’ll do the Site Audit first, then spend the time in the Expert for a Day applying the changes and providing training on things identified in the Site Audit.
Ready to book? Or maybe you have questions?
The next step is to book a free briefing call to talk things through, and if all sounds good, to agree dates.
A contract and full Terms & Conditions will be sent out before we start.
