Brighter Futures
About this project
Lauren had been a previous client for another project, and she contacted me in her role at Brighter Futures, a support and activism group for young migrants and refugees, to help build a new website to replace a sorely outdated Wordpress website that was no longer fit for purpose. The website needed to serve not only the young migrants and refugees, but also partner organisations, mental health practitioners and potential supporters; many different audiences with very different needs. Another challenge was that “the client” was both the organisation that runs the Brighter Futures project, and the young people participating in the project - each with their own differing opinions of what the website needed to do.
We held a series of collaborative input sessions with the young people via Zoom, giving them the opportunity to input into the design. We also created a special gallery page that allowed the young people to choose imagery to accompany their own words that help to demonstrate what the project means to those participating. The result is a welcoming and positive space that hopefully encourages other young migrants to want to take part, while also demonstrating to potential partners and supporters the positive impact the project has.
NOTE: After project completion, all clients receive training to empower them to update their own websites, so bear in mind that anything you see on the live website may not reflect my design work.
