Jonathan Olley
About this project
It’s not every day that a Star Wars nerd and keen photographer like me gets to build their dream website, but this was it!
Jonathan had been consistently booked as a unit stills photographer for major film studios, but his website made him seem like an amateur in the industry, not the power player that he is, and he felt he was losing opportunities. With more and more decisions being made by giving a cursory glance on a mobile phone, he realised he needed to scrap his old site and start fresh with something that would give the instant ‘wow’ factor.
As a shy quiet type who doesn’t like being the centre of attention, Jonathan expressed how hard it was to write about himself. Through our collaboration sessions it emerged that his background in photo journalism where he had to stay almost invisible in war zones was a USP for his brand in this other career, as it allowed him to be so unobtrusive that it enables him to get the most elusive shots on set - the ones you have probably seen on film posters. As his work is so strong, we really didn’t need much more text than this to help set him apart, letting the calibre of the photography stand for itself.
I created a homepage for Jonathan that could act as his 3-second calling card, with a “top 10” showcase gallery at the top, a place to quickly demonstrate the types of films he had worked on. I wrote a concise nutshell summary that encapsulated his USP below, with a link to read more. We closed off the homepage with more large-format images that led to the key portfolios of his different types of work.
I finished off the project with a series of task-based training videos that he and his assistant can use to easily add to the website when needed.
NOTE: After project completion, all clients receive training to empower them to update their own websites, so bear in mind that anything you see on the live website may not reflect my design work.
